Is your tooth brush dirtier than cloth for mobbing? Dr. Qiu Guozhou, a dental specialist said toothbrush is 9 times dirtier than cloth for mobbing.

Dr Qiu said our mouth is the dirtiest place of our body. When brushing your teeth, germs will accumulate in the toothbrush. If there is any injury in mouth, germ will infect those with weak immune system. It may cause other diseases like gingivitis, fever and heart inflammation.

In a press conference, Dr. Qiu discovered that compared to one dollar coin, water hose and cloth for mobbing, toothbrush has the highest germ count. According to a research, bacteria on toothbrush can grow rapidly every minute. In damp environment, it can even multiply to several millions.

Once there was a patient who went to see a dentist. The dentist found his tooth brush was in bad condition and he did not brush his teeth properly.

Therefore, remember the following tips:

1. Do not dip your toothbrush in a glass of water

2. Do not place your toothbrush in a highly damp room

3. Change your toothbrush at appropriate time

4. Do not place several toothbrushes together to avoid germ contamination

5. Do not share your toothbrush with other family members

How to keep your toothbrush clean? Dentist suggests it must be placed in dry and ventilated place. After brushing your teeth, dry your toothbrush and keep it in proper place. Preferably, change your toothbrush every 3 months.

Dental teeth cleaning is a process where your dentist will remove unwanted residual on your teeth including tartar and coffee stain. This cleaning process is more thorough compared to just brushing or flossing your teeth.

You may know you should clean your teeth once every 6 months. But why this is important?

What happen if you don’t clean your teeth for too long? Plaque build up may form a layer of hard substance on your teeth called tartar.

And this may contain thousands or millions of bacteria. When you chew your food, some bacteria may be mixed with the food and get swallowed into your stomach. This in turn may cause stomach inflammation such as the dreaded Helicobacter Plyori (HP) virus infection.

Prolong build up of tartar may also create difficulty to fully clean your teeth on your future dental visit.

And what happen if you clean your teeth once every 3 months? This shorter duration for teeth cleaning is not recommended too. Cleaning your teeth too often may harm your teeth and gum.

So remember to visit your dentist once every 6 months to have your teeth cleaned. Smile!

For 28 years, I didn’t floss my teeth. I just brush it twice a day. I knew about dental floss. And I’ve tried it once or twice but I was afraid my gum will bleed.

Few years ago, I went to a dentist in my hometown for teeth cleaning. I had never visited this dental clinic before. It was recommended by my girl friend who is now my wife.

After my teeth cleaning was done, this old dentist asked me to hold a small mirror to see my teeth. My god… I saw my gum bleed in many places! It bleed slightly though.

Then the dentist told me which area he had cleaned. At last he said, “You must floss your teeth every day. Just like this…” And I looked at him flossing my teeth through the mirror. I thought, “My god… my gum was bleeding and you still floss my teeth!” Well, it was just a slight pain. Nothing to worry about.

Flossing?

That night, I tried to floss each of my teeth after brushing my teeth. Oppss… I saw some leftover food and plaque coming out. The more I flossed, the more these stuffs came out. Hmm… looks like brushing teeth is not enough to remove these food residuals. So from that day onwards, I floss my teeth every day.

Sometimes, I was very tired and wanted to sleep immediately. But thinking of the dirty stuff sticking in between my teeth forced me to floss my teeth before sleep.

What about you?

Do you have silver dental filling in your mouth? If yes, here is what you need to know about it. The silver filling uses amalgam and about half of it consists of mercury.

Mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin which means it poisons your nerve. Too much mercury in your body causes birth defect and other mental disorders. And injecting tiny amount of mercury in your blood stream is enough to kill you.

So if you have amalgam filing in your mouth, the mercury may unknowingly being absorbed into your blood stream. It also vaporizes with heat, which you may inhale it. For a prolonged time, you may get some health problems related to mercury intoxication.

However, your body has the mechanism to expel out mercury through chemical reactions. So if you have 2 or 3 mercury filling, you may seem okay. But those with 7 or 9 amalgam fillings may start to get many incurable health problems.

Without amalgam filling, health problems gone

I recently met a holistic doctor who specializes in this area. He said his decades of nose allergy and serious dandruff were gone after he took out all his amalgam fillings. And his daughter’s years of migraine was gone after she took out her 9 amalgam fillings.

Coincidence? I don’t think so. This doctor had many other similar experience with his clients. Most improved their health in one way or another after their amalgam fillings were gone.

So if you have any amalgam filling in your mouth, I highly recommend you to take it out even you’re perfectly fine right now. You don’t know when mercury intoxication problem will surface. And you don’t want to burden your body to detoxify it every day. You can change the filling to non-mercury type. Ceramic filling is the recommended type, may be more expensive. This makes you look better too.

Which one you prefer?

Important precaution

Some people may even have higher blood mercury level after they take out their amalgam filling. Why is it so?

Well, to take out the filling, dentist must heat it up first. In this process, mercury vaporizes and you may breathe in the mercury vapor. However, there is one precaution you can take.

You can request your dentist to use a special fitting attached to your tooth with filling. It is then attached to suction tube where unwanted mercury vapor can be sucked out. You may still inhale a little mercury vapor but the amount is much lower.

You must also remember to take out one or two small fillings at any one time. If you have bigger filling, just take out one at a time. Then rest for one or two weeks before taking out another one or two fillings. Continue this until your dentist changed all your amalgam fillings.

If you have 7 amalgam fillings, never take all out at the same time. If not, you risk getting even higher mercury intoxication.

For myself, I’ve changed all my 3 small dental fillings to non-mercury type 3 years ago. My dentist friend in Singapore helped me with that. However, I took it out all at once without fitting to suck out the mercury vapor. Well, luckily nothing serious happened. But please don’t take any chances.

Herb to detoxify mercury

One of the best herb to expel accumulated mercury in your body is the Ganoderma or Reishi mushroom. It works naturally, without causing any side effects. Here’s my recommendation…

Before your first dental visit to remove amalgam filling, take 6 capsules of Ganoderma every day, for 2 weeks. After your first visit, continue taking Ganoderma for another 2 weeks before your second dental visit. Continue this until all fillings are taken out. After your last dental visit, continue to take Ganoderma for another 2 to 4 weeks.

In this way, you will reduce mercury intoxication risk to a minimum level. Can you continue taking Ganoderma after that? Of course. You’re not getting mercury from amalgam filling alone. Fishes and sea foods may contain mercury in varying amount due to water pollution. Plants may also contain mercury due to soil pollution. It seems quite impossible to avoid getting a few small doses of this toxin into your body every day.

So it’s best if you can take 2 to 4 capsules of Ganoderma for long term. This keeps your body free from unwanted heavy metals.

Should you ask your dentist?

As with root canal treatment, don’t waste your time asking your dentist about danger of amalgam filling. My wife did. And the old dentist in my hometown told her, “Who says so? Amalgam filling has been used for many decades without any problem. You see… your filling is still solid and intact.” And he gently knocked on her filling a few times to show it was in good condition.

If you’re serious about avoiding mercury intoxication risk, just go to your dentist and request to change one or two of your amalgam filling. If you have more fillings, don’t take out all at once. Remember?

If your dentist ask why you want to change it since the filling is still good. Just smile and say, “I want to look better”

My previous post on brushing teeth reminded me of my wife’s root canal treatment. If you have never heard of root canal, it’s a dental treatment for preserving decayed tooth.

Usually, dentist will do dental filling for your slightly decayed tooth. And if your tooth is seriously decayed, dentist will take it out. And you will have one tooth less.

But with root canal, you have an additional option to keep your tooth. Dentist will drill a hole on top of your decayed tooth, extract out all tooth nerves, fill it up and cover it up with dental crown.

This results in a lifeless tooth. You cannot sense any pain on this particular tooth because the nerves are taken out. But you still can chew food with it.

Sounds good isn’t it?

It may sound good but many researches and patient experiences showed various health problems resulting from root canal treatment. This is mainly caused by porous space left over by the extracted nerves and blood vessels. And various bacteria can live in that space.

Unfortunately, your body immunity cells cannot reach there since blood vessels are no longer available. So the bacteria can live there happily ever after…

The rest is elementary. Bacteria produces toxins. And toxins flows to your other body parts causing all sorts of health problems. This is what I understand about root canal treatment. You always find more information through the internet.

My wife root canal

When I found out the danger of root canal last year, my wife already had one in her mouth for 5 years. After a few months, we finally decided to take it out. So we went to see my dentist friend in Singapore.

The moment dentist pull out her root canal tooth, a strong foul smell came out from her mouth. I could still smell it coming out from her mouth after 2 hours. This could only mean one thing – serious inflammation.

This is her extracted tooth photo.

Root canal tooth & crown - looks bad

Before and after

Before taking out her root canal tooth, my wife had some problem with her balancing once a while. When she was walking straight, she would suddenly move to the side and hit the wall. And she had no idea how it happened.

But now, she realized her balancing problem had disappeared. It was a subtle change though. She said she experienced another improvement but forgot about it. I’ll update it when she recalls it.

What should you do?

Here is my sincere advice for you. If you’re thinking of doing root canal treatment, don’t do it. And if you have root canal tooth in your mouth, it depends on your personal choice. If I have one in my mouth, I’ll definitely take it out even though I don’t have any health problem.

If you have root canal tooth and you’re currently experiencing some incurable health problems, you can take your chance and remove the tooth. There is a high probability that your problem is caused by the tooth. Even if the tooth is not the culprit, it’s still better to remove it sooner or later. Keeping a dead tooth in your mouth is not a wise choice.

Asking the dentist

And if you happen to ask your dentist about this matter, be prepare to hear them defending root canal usage with their facts and case studies.

However, you must understand that most dentist and doctor learn about what is good and what is bad from the university. And university get its standard from your government. And your government get its standard from other bigger government. And those bigger government decision may be influenced by… you guess it.

There is a thick book with various case studies proving root canal treatment side effects. If you cannot find it, you can request it from me. I happen to know one holistic doctor specializing in this area.

Finally, it all boils down to one question: Do you want good looking teeth with root canal or do you want a healthy body without root canal?

Recently I just got a clear understanding on when we should brush our teeth. Dr Lee mentioned it in his recent health talk.

When I was in primary school, teacher taught me to brush my teeth twice a day. Once when I wake up in the morning and once before I go to sleep at night. And I’ve been following this method for 30 years.

Then, I heard Dr Lee said, “When should you brush your teeth? The answer is immediately after each meal. This means, you should brush your teeth right after your breakfast, lunch and dinner. If it’s not practical to brush your teeth after lunch, you must at least rinse your mouth a few times.”

“Let say you have a tiny piece of vegetable stuck between your teeth after meal. Wait for 30 minutes and take out that piece of vegetable using a tooth pick. Smell it and you won’t get any bad smell. This time you have a tiny piece of meat, noodle or rice get stuck between your teeth. Wait for 30 minutes and take it out. You’ll smell a bad odor.”

“After each meal, bacteria in your mouth will thrive and multiply by feeding on your left over food. They create unwanted acids which eat away your tooth enamel.”

“Most of you brush your teeth after wake up. Since you’ve not eaten anything and you’ve brushed your teeth the night before, why are you brushing your teeth? Well, I know the answer. You want to get rid of your bad breath right?”

“Why you will get bad breath when you wake up? It may caused by eating a lot before you sleep. You may have poor digestion. Or you may also have stomach inflammation. When you change your lifestyle and treat your stomach problem, your bad breath will go away naturally.”

When to brush it?

A new schedule

After hearing these words from Dr Lee, I renewed my teeth brushing schedule

When I wake up, I just rinse my mouth a few times. After my breakfast, I brush my teeth for the first time. After lunch, I rinse my mouth a few times. And after dinner, I brush my teeth immediately.

There is one additional advantage of brushing teeth right after dinner. I’ll be more reluctant to eat other foods or desserts later at night. If not, I’ll have to brush my teeth again. Having supper before sleep is very very unhealthy for your stomach and your whole body.

So if you are still using the old method, please update it just like what I’ve done
