Connected

Connected

At first I was reluctant to share this photo. The room was quite messy and dark. And I had such a beautiful sleeping pose!

However, this photo is very meaningful.

The night before, our baby had difficulty sleeping. I had to calm him down until he fell asleep after 3am. Therefore I took an afternoon nap because of not having enough sleep. And when I was deep asleep, my wife took this photo. I was holding baby’s hand while sleeping. I didn’t know that until I saw this photo.

How could I hold baby’s hand while sleeping? I have no idea. Maybe while sleeping, baby and I are “connected”.

Resting together...

Resting together...

Cat and dog are natural enemy. Now they can rest together under the sun shade. If they can be together, why can’t we?

I took this photo in front of my house. This cat and dog just finished their meal and lying lazily. They are not our pet. But we feed them with our left over food. When we go out for dinner, we will pack the left over food and bones for them. Why throw away our food when we can feed them?

There is a big plate in front of our house. When the dog or cat is not around, we just put the food on the plate. The dog will usually come to eat first. If it couldn’t finish the food, the cat comes later to eat it. Finally if there is still some left over, the rat comes to enjoy it at night!

The ideal baby poop

The ideal baby poop

Oppsss… I’m sorry if this lets you lose your appetite. I didn’t mean it. :)

This morning, our baby gave out an ideal poop shown above. Not too soft. Not too hard. Color is nice. Smell is good (not smelly I mean). It came out just like pressing a toothpaste. Actually he gave out 3 bunches of poop in different sizes. And the above is the most beautiful. :)

From cow to soy milk - From owl to bear

From cow milk to soy milk - From owl to bear

Yesterday, I bought a new infant formula for our baby – the Isomil soy milk from Abbott. I’ve long known the disadvantages of cow’s milk. But only yesterday I made the change. Before this, I didn’t even know soy based infant formula exists.

You see, our baby started taking Enfalac A+ from the very first day at maternity center. Since everything was fine, we had the tendency to continue feeding him with this cow’s milk.

But attending Dr Lee health talk last Sunday reminded me again of cow’s milk disadvantages. He thoroughly explained cow’s milk and breast milk comparison. Here is the summary:

Pooping is very important for baby. By observing baby’s poop, we can know whether baby’s digestive system is good. Preferably, baby’s poop should be yellowish in color, soft and long.

Hard and tiny poop is not good. That means baby’s body is too “heaty”. This has to do with which infant formula baby takes or what breastfeeding mum eats. We found that Wyeth’s S26 infant formula is too “heaty” for our baby. Mead Johnson’s Enfalac A+ is okay for our baby.

Basically, newborn baby does only two things most of the time – sleep and eat. We often wrap up baby like a ball when they sleep. We believe baby will not get frightened. This mimics the environment in mother’s womb where they are also wrapped up tightly. All babies at the maternity hospital are wrapped up too.

However, I heard baby in Australia and other western countries is not wrapped up. Their hands and legs are free to move and kick around. This lets baby exercise and practice their movements. Well, I think this is good for baby’s growth too.
