Who is the culprit?

A diaper is the culprit for causing this redness on baby’s leg. But how can a diaper cause that? This is not the usual skin rashes caused by prolong diaper use.

Well, this skin redness is actually caused by the adhesive tape on both sides of the diaper. It was the Pureen Dry 5 baby diaper. And this old design still uses adhesive tape to secure the diaper. Of course baby cry out loud when I was trying to peel it off.

The tape was too sticky and I tried to peel slowly. But that didn’t stop baby from crying. After the tape was taken off, it left a red mark on baby’s tender skin. The red mark disappeared the next day though.

Actually this was the second time our baby got stuck with diaper adhesive tape. The first incident happened not long after baby came home. Of course, baby cried when we were removing the tape. So we got smart and always remember to stick the tape inward whenever we open the diaper.

This second incident happened while baby was pooping. My wife and I were busy cleaning baby’s butt. Suddenly I saw the tape stuck on baby’s leg again. Oppsss!

Many diaper such as Huggies and Mamy Poko use mini velcro to secure the diaper. This won’t stick on baby’s skin. The plastic tape on Pureen diaper is also quite sharp on the edges. This might hurt baby’s skin when not properly worn.

I guess we have to say goodbye to Pureen diaper when we use up our existing supply.

I’m using Pureen Dry 5. Sometimes my pant even get wet if baby wears it for a long time. I haven’t tried the Premium one.
